PARTIALS AND DENTURES
Losing some or all of your teeth is an unexpected occurrence, but there are various solutions available for replacing them. Complete dentures and partial dentures are among the options to restore missing teeth and regain both function and a confident smile. These custom-made replacements can be easily removed and reinserted. Like any other prosthetic, such as an artificial limb, adapting to dentures and partials may require some adjustment time. While nothing can truly replace natural teeth, we dedicate our time and expertise to crafting top-quality dentures and partials. Our customized solutions are designed to be natural-looking, functional, well-fitted, and exceptionally comfortable.
BENEFITS OF PARTIALS AND DENTURES
There are numerous advantages to replacing lost teeth with well-fitted dentures or partials. This replacement not only enhances your smile but also improves your eating habits and overall quality of life. Missing teeth can severely hinder your ability to enjoy a variety of foods rich in essential vitamins and nutrients, such as meats, fruits, vegetables, and nuts. Additionally, the absence of teeth or dentures can lead to facial muscle sagging and a prematurely aged appearance.
Properly fitting dentures play a crucial role in preserving the jawbone. When teeth are missing, the body tends to resorb or diminish the bone in that area. Well-fitted dentures stimulate the gums and bone, slowing down this process. Conversely, poorly fitting dentures exert uneven pressure on the gums and jawbone, accelerating bone loss. Furthermore, speaking can become challenging for individuals with missing teeth, as certain sounds, like “S,” “F,” and “V,” rely on teeth for proper pronunciation. Partials and dentures greatly alleviate these speech difficulties, enabling individuals to communicate more comfortably.
PARTIALS OR DENTURES?
Complete dentures consist of replacement teeth set in a gum-colored acrylic base that snugly conforms to the gums. The upper denture covers the palate, while the lower denture adopts a “horseshoe” shape to accommodate the tongue. Ideal for those missing all teeth, our custom-made complete dentures ensure a natural appearance and enable enjoyable eating experiences through various fitting techniques.
For those with some missing teeth, partial dentures offer a solution, although they cannot replace all missing teeth. Options include all-acrylic and metal-acrylic combination partials, with the latter being more common and robust. The metal framework provides stability for chewing, enhancing durability over many years. Since partial dentures rely on remaining teeth and gums for support, ensuring the strength and stability of existing teeth is crucial. In cases of weakened teeth, we may recommend crowns to reinforce them as anchors for the partial denture.
IMPLANTS AND DENTURES
- Removable dentures supported by implants feature unique attachments that securely “snap” onto the implants, ensuring the denture remains stable. Typically, this type of prosthesis necessitates 2-4 implants for optimal support.
- Implant-supported dentures are meticulously crafted to offer a permanent attachment to both the implants and the gums. They serve as an optimal solution for patients seeking the most aesthetically pleasing and natural alternative to replace multiple or all of their teeth. Utilizing porcelain, these dentures closely mimic the appearance, functionality, and sensation of real teeth. Typically, this type of prosthesis necessitates the placement of 4-8 implants for optimal support and stability.
TIPS FOR CARING FOR YOUR DENTURE AND PARTIAL
- Ensure dentures remain moist – Avoid allowing your dentures or partials to dry out. Store them in a solution with denture cleanser or plain water when not in use, refraining from hot or boiling water which could distort them irreversibly.
Maintain denture hygiene – Regularly clean dentures using a brush to eliminate food particles and plaque, preventing staining and long-term damage. - Maintain oral hygiene by gently brushing your gums, tongue, and the roof of your mouth daily before wearing dentures. This routine stimulates blood circulation in your gums and effectively removes plaque. Additionally, rinsing with mouthwash contributes to keeping your mouth fresh and clean.
- Avoid exposing your dentures to pets – Dogs have a penchant for chewing on dentures and partials! Your denture interacts with both you and the food you consume, which happen to be two of your dog’s cherished items. Beware, as this could turn into a costly chew toy!
- Please seek advice from your dentist – Should you detect any chipping, cracking, or loosening of your dentures, please contact us immediately! Avoid attempting adjustments on your own, as this may result in irreparable damage.
